Why LocalDrop.Dev?

Built for speed, privacy, and everyday convenience.

Drag-ready, no Finder, no app switching

When files arrive, a popup opens with the files already in it — drag them straight into Discord, Slack or email. Screenshots and recordings land the same way, editor-ready. Zero detours through Finder or File Explorer.

Native OS context menu

Right-click any file in Windows or macOS → Send via LocalDrop → pick a device. No need to open the app.

Maximum LAN speed

Transfer files over HTTP directly on your local network — no cloud upload, no bandwidth caps.

Absolute privacy

Files never leave your network. No middleman server, no account, no tracking.

Automatic device discovery

Open the app on two machines — they find each other within 5 seconds via UDP multicast. No IP entry, no pairing.

Password protect

Optionally require a password before accepting files — prevents accidental sends in busy offices.

No size limits

Send a 1 GB, 10 GB or 100 GB folder — speed depends only on your LAN. No artificial caps.

Screenshot & annotate

Capture full screen, a window, or a region. Mark up with arrows, text and shapes — then send to any device in one click.

Screen recording

Record your screen as a video clip. Share it instantly over your LAN — no upload, no length cap, no watermark.

Shared clipboard

Copy a snippet on one device, paste on another. Text syncs across macOS, Windows, Android, and iOS — nothing leaves your network.

I'm lazy. Professionally lazy.

Here's the thing: screenshot apps can't send files between devices. File-share apps can't take screenshots. So every time I wanted to send one quick shot to a coworker, I had to: open the capture app → save → open Finder → hunt down the file I just made three seconds ago → open chat → drag it in. Six steps. For one screenshot.

Somewhere around step three I was already arguing with my computer.

So I crammed it all into one app: screenshot, record, send files, paste text between devices, drag anywhere. One place, one click, Finder can pretend it doesn't exist.

LocalDrop keeps getting chubbier. Every time I catch myself doing something silly for the second time, a new tool shows up a few days later. Fellow lazy people — feet up. ✌️

Three steps to send

No complicated setup. No network config. Just open the app.

  1. 1

    Install & open

On both sender and receiver. The app registers its share service with the OS.

  2. 2

    Pick file → right-click

In Finder / File Explorer, choose Send via LocalDrop and pick the target device.

  3. 3

    Receive & done

Receiver clicks Accept. A popup of received files appears — preview them or drag straight into any chat to forward. Saved to Downloads/LocalDrop.
